The Objective
The client came to Platinum Gym Design with an underutilized garage and a clear ambition: transform it into a fully capable private training facility without expanding the footprint. The brief called for a complete remodel — new flooring, upgraded equipment, and a layout that makes intelligent use of every square foot. The existing space had potential; it simply needed the right vision to unlock it.
The Solution
The remodel begins with the flooring — 3/8-inch commercial-grade rolled rubber in black with a blue fleck that sets the tone for the entire space and provides the performance underfoot that serious training demands. Full-wall mirrors along the back wall visually double the room and bring in the natural light flooding through the original glass-panel garage door, which was retained as a key architectural feature connecting the gym to the outdoors.
The equipment selection is deliberately compact but uncompromising in quality. A Rogue Indy rack with adjustable cable columns, finished in dark blue, anchors the strength zone, providing squat, press, pull, and full cable capability within a minimal footprint, paired with a stainless steel Rogue Ohio Power Bar. A Torque Fitness Relentless Rope, wall mounted, gives the room a signature conditioning piece the client had seen elsewhere and asked us to source.
The cardio zone is defined by a Precor elliptical — a commercial-grade machine chosen for its smooth stride and low noise profile, ideal for a residential setting. A Life Fitness G4 home gym with leg press attachment rounds out the equipment package, and a Precor leg raise and dip station plus a Precor adjustable bench complete the strength program.
The result is a garage that no longer feels like a compromise. Every element — from equipment brand selection to mirror placement to flooring specification — has been chosen to deliver a training environment that performs at the level of a professional facility, within the footprint of a standard residential garage.
